Seahorse Fossils
Currently, very little is know about seahorse fossils. Seahorse evolution remains mysterious as few fossils have been discovered. Until 2005, the oldest know seahorse fossils were dated at approximately 5 million years. In 2005, some much older fossils were discover in the Tunjice hills in Slovenia. These specimens have been dated at 13 million years making them the oldest known seahorse fossils. This makes them of Middle Miocene age.
